ROUND 12 PREVIEW: CATS V SHERWOOD
Broadbeach will look at to bounce back after consecutive disappointing losses at home against the Sherwood Magpies. In a massive day for the club over 100 attendees are expected for our annual ladies day event held which will support the Pyjama Foundation. We thank major sponsors Daniel and Kim Wueffen of iPlumb Solutions for their long term support of the event and our Treasurer Tracey Flower who has done an amazing job organizing the day. The senior players are wearing a special jersey to mark the occasion, to be auctioned off in the club after the match.
Josh HALL, a former elite high jumper who has the rare history having played professionally in both the AFL and NRL will making his debut for the club. Hall has been playing at Sharks and is making his return from a knee reconstruction this week and we wish him well. Also returning to the side are club stalwart James ROYES, who will play as a key defender in replace of in-form defender James GLEDHILL who has a back injury that will see him missing until after the bye. Jai LYONS has also earned his first appearance for the season after a late start due to a knee injury and a few weeks of solid reserves form. Pacey youngster Cody HARRINGTON also returns after a mild concussion last start and recently missing on representative duties. SHEERS (inj), BURTON (susp) and PICKERING (omit) go out of the side.
Early in the season the Cats ran out convincing winners against Sherwood, however since then they have beaten premiership contenders Labrador (who beat us last week) and last year’s premier Morningside. Clearly they enter the game in good form with their prime movers in Greene, Winton and Coombes in good form and Highlands being a solid key position player. Former Suns player Jackson Allen also adds some class to their lineup. Expect the coaches to throw the magnets around a bit this week as the Cats try to turn around a mid season dip in form.
In the Development Team, some exciting inclusions this week. Darcy DIENJES, a Broadbeach junior and previous long time player senior player will saddle up after a year at Carrara. Also into the side is Jack O’SHEA, another former junior who has undertaken his rehab from a knee reco with the professionalism not normally seen at this level to his great credit. We also welcome back Ben HANCOCK from injury and welcome to the side Jared ECKERSLEY for his first game at reserves level. Alex MALONEY from the strong Geelong league will also make his club debut after recently relocating to the Gold Coast.
Our colts have been boosted by a number of players returning from rep duties and by a few under 16’s that are being elevated.
Our senior women’s teams will round out the evening, with our Div 1 side playing Moreton Bay at 4:45 pm and the development team taking on Beenleigh at 6:30pm.
Definitely worth sticking around for.
Good luck to all teams.
