R7 PREVIEW: 2 BROADBEACH JUNIORS TO DEBUT

A huge day of football at the Cattery tomorrow celebrating pride round as the Cats try to extend their unbeaten run heading into the bye. Our senior men’s and women’s teams will wear rainbow socks to mark the occasion.

Injury, suspension and Suns Academy duties have all taken their toll on selection with no less than 7 forced changes in the senior match up, which begins at the earlier time of 1:30pm to accommodate the twilight QClash fixture at Metricon. The club is pleased to announce that a further 2 Broadbeach juniors will make their senior debut in the main game tomorrow. Brayden “BT” TAYLOR will suit up after playing colts in 2020, and the early rounds this year, then playing some excellent footy at reserves level the past couple of weeks. Jake ROGERS, who played in the under 16’s in 2020 has some serious leg speed and will be certainly one to watch.

Darcy “EMU” IRWIN returns from being away, club stalwart James ROYES and exciting recruit Matt LITTLE return from injury and Tom BETSON and Dylan LANCASTER have been rewarded with their first senior appearances for the year with solid reserves form. Out of the side on academy duty go PICKERING, BROWN, HARRINGTON & MUNRO, Kai SHEERS failed to come up from a bad corkie last week and Brandon “HAWK” CHADWICK will have to wait to celebrate this hundredth senior match after being somewhat unluckily rubbed out at the hands of the tribunal last week. Sam WEDDELL is away for work. The Cats will be looking for our top tier players to stand up this weekend and get the club over the line. Jordan MAYOR MONCRIEFF will line up along side gun Riley WINTER and they will prove dangerous for an experienced Mt Gravatt back line.

Mt Gravatt bring to the Gold Coast a somewhat inexperienced side, however Big Tiny Malone has been named to return and will no doubt be looking to use his huge frame to advantage and give the like of Murphy and Neate first use of the ball. Interestingly Max Gambell, brother of our Aussie Gambell and son of Senior backs coach Matt Gambell will line up for Mt Gravatt, however former Broadbeach star Benji Neal suffered a concussion last week and will miss. It will be interesting if veterans Green and Estall end up playing given both have been named as emergencies. With near perfect conditions forecast, spectators can expect an exciting free-flowing match.

Seniors

IN: Irwin, Little, Betson, Lancaster, Taylor, Royes, Rogers

OUT: Chadwick (suspension), Sheers (leg), Pickering (acad.), Brown (acad.), Munro (acad.), Harrington (acad), Weddell (away)

Debut: Brayden Taylor (Broadbeach Juniors) & Jake Rogers (Broadbeach Juniors)

Our development and colts sides are a little stretched for numbers this week with some 25 players unavailable for selection, however it’ll be interesting to see how colts players Hamilton HOWARD and Aden CONLON go in their first games at reserves level and the club welcomes the return of cult figure big KERRY.

Be sure to hang around after the seniors as our women’s Div 1 and 2 teams take on Mt Gravatt at Ballina respectively, from 4:15pm. The club welcomes debutants Chloe FROST (Div 1) and Alice SAVILL (Div 2). Both players have come out of the Suns Academy and Alice was a club junior. The Div 1 game shapes as your classic “8 point” match with both sides having a similar up and down start to the season.

Good luck to all teams.
