BROADBEACH have opened up our 2021 QAFL Season with a 32 point victory over local rival Labrador in front of over 1500 spectators at a 'packed' SUBARU OVAL. In what was a great day for the football club, the celebration of the 1996 premierships in the club with a lovely luncheon sponsored by the Broadbeach Sports Club with many great stories told. After a shaky start down by 9 points at QTR Time, the classic old first game fumbles and poor skill errors disappeared come the second quarter for the CATS to lead by 20 at half time. Connor NUTTING kicked the first 2 goals for the CATS up front and kept us in the game early with some great marks and forward pressure. Labrador burst out of the blocks after half time reducing our lead to only 8 points before 2 goals from MONCRIEFF and singles to NUTTING and ARMITAGE. The CATS held steady to seal victory by 32 points in the last. Tough conditions with 32C heat, we were down a rotation early with Matt LITTLE going down with a leg injury. Defender Harry ARNOLD looks set for a stint on the sideline with a shoulder injury after courageously going back with the flight in the 3rd QTR.

Tyrone ARMITAGE was super in the midfield and was well supported by Andrew BOSTON, Blake ERICKSON and Michael SELSBY. Broadbeach senior debutant Ryan PICKERING was solid in the ruck, providing a contest around the ground all day and giving our midfielders first use of the footy. Connor MUNRO and Bodhi UWLAND were very good in their first senior games. UWLAND flew for the big marks and was very handy in defense.

Jordan MONCRIEFF and Connor NUTTING combined for 9 goals up front and lit the SUBARU Oval crowd alight! Nutting had 4 goals to half time and finished with 5 goals, whilst the 'Mayor" booted 4 goals to kick start his goal tally for 2021 season.

A great day at the CATS, we now move onto Morningside next Saturday on their home turf. GO CATS!
