A big crowd is expected to gather at the Cattery tomorrow for a huge Round 1 local derby between the Broadbeach Cats and Labrador Tigers. The club is also delighted to be hosting the 25 year reunion of the 1996 triple premiership year with in excess of 60 former players, coaches and volunteers to be in attendance.
The Cats despite being hit with some early season injuries and unavailability, have still named a strong side with some 11 players backing up from the senior Grand Final from 2020, including Ex-Suns listed Sharks player Connor NUTTING. The club also welcomes back Ex-AFL player, Sharks VFL captain and former junior Andrew BOSTON into the team for what promises to be a physical encounter.
Coach Craig O’Brien is also pleased to welcome 7 debutants. Connor MUNRO, Bodhi UWLAND & Ryan PICKERING have all come to the club via the Gold Coast Suns Academy, with UWLAND and PICKERING graduating from the colts team from 2020. MUNRO hails from Cairns and deserves his opportunity after a solid pre-season.
The club also welcomes recruits James GLEDHILL (Rochester), Lucas JELLYMAN-TURNER (Berwick), Matt LITTLE (Rowville) & Sam JASPER for their first appearance in Cats colours.
Labrador, under new coach Nick Malceski will be looking to put a tough 2020 campaign behind them and have recruited well also, headlined by Pearce Hanley and will also be boosted by returning players Jake Goldsmith and Billy Hicks.
With fine and hot conditions forecast, SUBARU oval will look a picture, so supporters are encouraged to come down and support the boys in an exciting year of QAFL footy.
